Duke of Edinburgh Practice
Over the last two weekends our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh groups attended their first outdoor training session, held at Fermyn Woods Country Park. The aim of the sessions were to introduce navigation using a map and compass, putting up and taking down tents, and to make safe use of the camping stoves.
All of our students were up for the challenge and we had some competitive teams for the orienteering event. Although the weather added an extra challenge, the first weekend was very wet and the second was very windy. All the groups managed to navigate around the course and return to the start/finish point, with at least some of the checkpoints recorded! We are now looking forward to our expeditions in the coming months.
