Twickenham Trip – England v Italy

On Sunday 26 February, Mr Baron accompanied by Mrs Cobley took thirteen boys from Years 7 to 9 to Twickenham Rugby Stadium to watch England v Italy in the Six Nations.  After an early start, the group arrived with plenty of time before kick-off. The boys had time to soak up the electric atmosphere of an International Rugby fixture and waited patiently for the teams to arrive, some even managing to catch a glimpse of the back of Owen Farrell and Danny Care’s head as they headed for the dressing room. Other students mingled with the crowd, some even getting selfies with the official England mascot!

When kick off arrived, the boys were looking forward to a dominant England performance.  Unfortunately, this did not materialise.  The Grand Slam champions trailing 10-5 at the end of the worst half of Eddie Jones' reign, brought about by their inability to adapt to Italy's crafty refusal to form rucks!

Following copious amounts of half-time treats, the boy’s settled down to watch the second half. England recovered to go 17-10 up in the second half. Finally, something to cheer about! This was short lived, as Italy’s centre Michele Campagnaro's try on the hour mark, cut the hosts' advantage to 17-15. Thanks in part from some poor kicking from Italy and two late tries from replacement Jack Nowell and one from centre Ben Te'o finally put the result beyond doubt.

Despite England’s performance, a fantastic day was had by all with the boys enjoying the experience and representing Prince William School brilliantly!
