Sports Leader Award
What Is A Sports Leader?
At Prince William School we provide students with the opportunity to develop a series of leadership skills both in and out of the curriculum. We run a series of Sports Leader Awards for all students in the school.
Sports Leaders make things happen! They organise, communicate and get others involved in sports activity. Sports Leaders are role models; helping others to achieve their goals and encouraging their communities to lead fit and healthy lifestyles. Sports Leaders gain nationally recognised qualifications that add value to applications for further education, training and employment. Sports Leaders learn the essential skills of leadership; communication, organisation and motivation, and, in addition, they grow in confidence and self-belief.

Young Leader Award
The Young Leader Award is a programme of leadership training for young people between the ages of 9 and 13 that promotes the opportunity to work with younger children while teaching leadership skills through a range of games and activities. The Young Leader Award has been designed for use in a variety of different delivery settings including primary and secondary schools, uniformed organisations and sports and community groups. The award focuses on specific skills such as giving instructions, the organisation of people and equipment, and the use of space. Young Leaders 'learn by doing' and, by the end of the course, will not only have the confidence and ability to lead others but will also have knowledge and experience of an extensive range of games and activities.
Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership
The Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership provides an ideal starting point for candidates aged 13 years and over who wish to develop their leadership skills, whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor. The course is designed to develop generic leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of sports and/or recreational situations as well as contributing to the personal development of the candidate. The Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership is a practical qualification in which candidates must demonstrate their ability to lead others in simple sports and activities.
Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership
The Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will give candidates the chance to develop their organisation, motivation and communication skills, whilst also focusing on positive role models in sport, how to mentor others and how to use leadership skills in a variety of settings.
During each course students are provided with the opportunity to lead, organise and run primary school sports festivals across Corby, Oundle and Thrapston School Sports Partnership. Prince William School are the host school for the Schools Sports Partnership.
A Great Career Starter
After completing each award students can include details of the programme in their Record of Achievement, CV, College/Job applications, Duke of Edinburgh award and on UCAS forms. Many young leaders go on to a career in sport, teaching or childcare related sectors.
