Introduction to Sixth Form

Post-16 Education at Prince William School

Prince William School is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school which serves the rural area in and around Oundle. Within this locality we are the only provider to offer a suite of A levels as the local colleges do not offer this to students. In addition, we are able to provide opportunities to pursue a variety of different types of qualification, for example BTECs, and considering our relatively secluded location we need to be “everything to everyone” in terms of what we offer at Post-16 education.

The vision for Prince William Sixth Form is to raise the aspirations of young adults by nurturing a passion for learning, enriching the student experience and securing outcomes which exceed their expectations.

The aim is to make Prince William Sixth Form the sixth form of choice for not only our local community but also for the extended community. We wish to broaden out the curriculum offer so that the Sixth Form becomes truly comprehensive whilst also producing outcomes that exceed national expectations.

We want to create confident, resilient and well-rounded adults who have an aspiration for self-improvement and are able to compete equally with their peers in a world beyond the sixth form. In order to achieve this, we will concentrate on:

  • Student outcomes;
  • Student well-being;
  • Developing a passion for lifelong learning;
  • Fostering sense of community responsibility;
  • Develop independent learners who are robust and resilient in their outlook on life.

Being a sixth form attached to a school enables students to experience a variety of leadership opportunities. Members of Prince William School’s Sixth Form are expected to lead by example and act as a role model for the main school. To support this there is a Business Smart dress code that has been developed in consultation with students.

Our unique selling point centres around us knowing our students well in terms of academic ability, and emotional capacity. We treat our students as individuals and the programme of study they follow are individualised to meet their evolving needs.

Labour Market Employment Routes

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills produced a “Working Futures” report which predicts that the majority of the future net increases of jobs up to 2024 within the SEMLEP area (South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership) will require attainment/training/skills acquisition at Levels 2,3 and 6. Over 65% of jobs will require a Level 4 qualification or over.

Within the SEMLEP area their model projects that there will be substantial jobs expansion demand over the period to 2024 particularly in the higher qualified jobs such as managers, business, science, engineering as well as caring professions.
